Fiancee?
I didn't know you were engaged.
Didn't you?
When did you get engaged?
- About six months ago.
- Six weeks ... months ago.
Where did you meet?
- On the Internet.
- At a club.
We met in a chat room on the Internet.
And then we met face to face at a club.
Yeah ... right.
Yes, that's right!
lt was at a club.
And we fell in love, didn't we, Matt?
Yes, we did.
l was very shy at first, but Matt was wonderful.
And when did you get engaged?

On the eighteenth of March.
Er, no. lt was on the nineteenth.
Don't you remember?
Oh yes, you're right, darling.
Where's the ring?
Sorry?
Didn't you buy an engagement ring?
For Jane.
- He did.
- l did.
But l don't wear it ... because it's a secret.
Nobody knows we're engaged.
Now, who wants a drink?
No, thank you.
Same again, please ... darling.
Matt. l can't believe it.
You're engaged. l thought that ...
Yeah. Sorry about that, Deb.
Don't tell anybody about Jane.
lt is a secret.

Although / though / even though In spite of / despite

(a) Рассмотрим ситуацию:

Although it rained a lot, they enjoyed themselves.

(= It rained a lot but they ...)

или: In spite of the rain, they enjoyed themselves.

Despite of the rain, they enjoyed themselves.

- Although she smokes 40 cigarettes a day, she is quite fit.

- Although it rained a lot, we enjoyed our holiday.

- I didn't get the job although I had all the necessary qualifications.

После in spite of (или despite) мы употребляем существительное, местоимение (this/that/what и т.д.) или -ing:

- In spite of the rain, we enjoyed our holiday.

- I didn't get the job despite my qualifications.

- She wasn't well, but in spite of this she went to work.

- Despite what I said last night, I still love you.

- I'm not tired in spite of working hard all day.

Отметьте, говорят `in spite of', но despite (без of).

Можно также сказать in spite of / despite the fact (that) ...:

- In spite of the fact (that) I was tired, I couldn't sleep.

- She's quite fit despite the fact (that) she smokes 40 cigarettes a day.

Сравните although и in spite of/despite:

- Although the traffic was bad, I arrived on time.

In spite of the traffic, I arrived on time.

- I couldn't sleep although I was very tired.

I couldn't sleep despite being very tired.

- I didn't get the job though I had all the necessary qualifications.

- The house isn't very nice. I like the garden though.

(= but I like the garden)

- I see him every day. I've never spoken to him though.

(= but I've never spoken to him)

- Even though I was really tired, I couldn't sleep.
